We have an exciting series of broadsides available with some of the most popular contemporary authors today (as well as the store's personal favorites).
A broadside, or broadsheet, is a large sheet of paper, usually printed only on one side. This format was often used for rapid distribution of time-dated ephemeral information and was intended to be read and shared or thrown away. Especially popular in the eighteenth century, the broadside format was used for a variety of purposes, including official notices, proclamations,
petitions, playbills, news extras, and advertisements. Broadsides were posted in town halls and coffee houses, read in churches and public meetings, and often reprinted or excerpted in local newspapers.
Today, broadsides can be pieces of great art and beautiful mementos of favorite works of literature. Each broadside in our series is numbered and personally signed by the author.
We've had great success in the past with our Richard Ford and Kaye Gibbons
broadsides. Both Ford's, using an excerpt from his Pulizer-prize winning novel, Independence Day , and Gibbons', with an excerpt from the highly acclaimed Sights Unseen , sold out so quickly that we decided to continue the series.
We would to thank
Terry Chouinard and Wing and the Wheel Press for
making these beautiful broadsides.
